物理化学性质：六氟化硫在常压下是一种无色、无臭、无毒、不燃、无腐蚀的惰性气态物质，气体密度：6.139g/１（20℃，0.101Ｍpa）,熔点为：－50.8℃ ，凝固点为：－63.8℃，临界温度：45.64℃，临界压力：3.84Ｍpa，临界密度：0.73g/cm³,临界容积：198m1/mo1,介电常数：1.002026（25℃， 0.101Ｍpa）。六氟化硫的化学稳定性强，500℃－600℃不分解，和酸、碱、盐、氨、水等不反应，在电弧作用下（几千度）分解为Ｓ和Ｆ的原子气，但电弧一旦解除便在10^５－10^６秒内复合成SF₆。六氟化硫具有良好的电气绝缘性能及优异的灭弧性能。其耐电强度为同一压力下氟气的2.5倍，击穿电压空气的2.5倍，灭弧能力空气的100倍，是一种优于空气和油的新一代高压绝缘介质材料。
用途：六氟化硫以其良好的绝缘性能和灭弧性能，被广泛应用于电器工业，如：断路器、 高压变压器、气封闭组合电容器、高压传输线、互感器等。SF₆还因其化学惰性、无毒 、不燃及无腐蚀性，还被广泛应用于金属冶炼（如熔融的镁和铝的保护、提纯）、航空、航天、医疗（Ｘ光机、激光机）、气象（分析）、化工（高级汽车轮胎、新型灭火器 ）等。电子级高纯六氟化硫是一种理想的电子蚀刻剂，被大量应用于微电子技术领域。随着当今科技的发展，SF₆涉及的领域不断扩展，被越来越多的基础领域和科技领域广泛应用
包装运输：六氟化硫对金属、合金不腐蚀，可用能钢瓶盛装，按液化气体运输，钢瓶每五年检验一次，可用汽车、火车、轮船及飞机运输。在储存、运输、使用中，应保持环境温度小于45℃。
安全及防护：纯净的六氟化硫气体无毒，在处理六氟化硫过程中可按无毒或低毒气体考虑 ，高浓度下为窒息气体，因此，现场应保持通风良好。
